BERA operates on the philosophy of interest groups and it is the interest groups, which define the character of BERA. The interest groups were established because education is too broad an area. Researchers in the general realm of education find comfort and solace by augmenting their competencies in some sub-areas or specific branches of education that capture their interest and motivation. In-depth explorations in such areas do not only sharpen researchers’ skills but also provide the kind of knowledge that is necessary for improvement of lives of individuals. Interest groups are the arms of BERA, which have a congenital goal of developing research skills and making research findings available for educational policy planning and development in specific areas.

Functions of Interest Groups:

BERA interest groups have the following functions:

  • To provide research training, expertise and disseminate information to BERA members on issues pertaining to specific areas of interest.
  • To review articles and papers for BERA Journal and the BOLESWANA International Symposium in the relevant areas.
  • To follow up Botswana National Development Plans research priorities in the specific areas of interest.
  • To organize national seminars on issues in particular areas of interest.
  • To solicit and supervise BERA consultancies in that area.
  • To connect BERA to international association with special emphasis on those areas of interest.
  • To attract members to BERA.

Currently BERA has the following interest groups:

  • Comparative Education Interest Group (CEIG)  Read More

  • School Improvement Interest Group (SIIG)  Read More

  • Gender In Education  Interest Group (GEIG)  Read More

  • Student Life Interest Group (SLIG)  Read More

  • Language Teaching And Learning Interest Group(LTL)  Read More

The activities of the interest groups have been variable, but have generally been at low ebb. In the current plan period, the BERA should strive to activate the dormant or inactive interest and encourage the sluggish ones to embark on specific action plans towards the realization of BERA’s activities.
